![]() I don't see any differences between BoxCryptor and Cryptomator in your case. But then again, if I find myself in a scenario where my gold copy and the encrypted local backup are both somehow destroyed, I'm going to need the full backup anyway so I would have to download the full file/folder structure no matter what to restore all my data. The only downside is that you have to keep the entire structure in tact at all times and you can't just download one file and decrypt it. Has a file/folder structure which is good because I'm not sure BackBlaze has block level identification of changes and I also don't want everything in one gigantic file anyway. With Boxcryptor, it was file based, so you could see the individual files and they weren't hidden inside a vault.ĮDIT - I have decided to go with Cryptomator after testing it. How can I achieve a similar setup with another tool? And what tool should I use? Do VeraCrypt and Cryptomator function in a similar way? From my understanding, the "vault" aspect means its sort of like a giant zip/iso file, which means that for BackBlaze and the syncing processes, it would look like a new/modified file every time the smallest change occurs, meaning it would have to copy or upload the entire thing and that would be a LOT of data to upload and very time consuming. ![]() I just need to make sure I periodically connect drives and let them sync/backup and everything works seamlessly. After that, BackBlaze will automatically pick up on the fact that the Boxcryptor drive is connected (not the virtual drive with the unencrypted data, the actual drive itself) and it will back everything up. What makes my current backup situation easy is that I have a process that syncs the gold copy to the unencrypted backup and a similar process to sync with the virtual Boxcryptor drive. The "cloud" in my case is BackBlaze or pCloud (depending on what is being backed up). And I have a Boxcryptor encrypted version which is what is actually backed up onto the cloud. I have the main/gold copy of my critical data. My setup is that I try to follow the 3:2:1 backup protocol. Though, my setup is a little different than most people who have their "vault" in the cloud like on Dropbox or another similar service. I've seen some comments here already about VeraCrypt and Cryptomator as potential replacements. I currently use Boxcryptor and just got the notice about their service ending due to their acquisition by Dropbox. Orgīuilding the global movement for the protection of privacy.
